“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” In this third installment of our “Foundations” series we develop your critical thinking, so you’ll be better able to coach yourself and others.

Over the course of 2 days we’ll explore the various nuances of skill acquisition beyond cause and effect. Through in depth discussions, guided learning segments, and peer to peer coaching you’ll learn how to address and manage emotional, physical, and environmental influences, allowing you to create a functional environment for progression every time you hit the slopes. For more detail on this process please see the Day by Day tab.

If you’re finding yourself stuck on a plateau knowing “what to do” but un-able to “do it” -or- You’re an instructor and your want to be more effective with your students this workshop is for you. Groups will be designed based on ability and experience.

For this event we bring in “Super Instructors” like Blair McLeod, Chris Lang, and more.. Talented coaches who not only host a great lesson but also have operated ski and ride schools and have been in the role of training instructors at the highest level. This is way beyond L3.

This workshop is designed for intermediate snowboarders to experienced instructors. This workshop has a minimum participation of 4 persons to operate, if minimum participation is not met within 14 days of the start date you will receive a full refund. LIFT TICKETS INCLUDED IN REGISTRATION PRICE

AASI Certified Instructors receive an additional discount please inquire.

Thursday – Something NEW

Meet Boreal Day Lodge 8:30am. We’ll start the day with a discussion about the various factors that influence someone’s ability to learn. We’ll use “Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs” to frame this initial conversation. From there we’ll break into small groups and head on snow, where your coach will teach you something NEW, examples include: Heelside Euro Carve, frontside board slide, etc. At lunch you’ll debrief your experience, discussing the methods your coach used to adapt the learning environment to meet your needs.

After lunch we’ll introduce a new model “Work Styles; seer, thinker, feeler, doer” as a group we’ll discuss their traits and how these biases can effect learning. Then you’ll go back on snow where your coach will lead you though a peer coaching activity where you’ll gain insight on your personal bias as well as methods on how to recognize and react to someone else’s bias.

Monday – Refinement

Meet Boreal Day Lodge 8:30am. We’ll start the day with a discussion on the three stages of motor development “Cognitive, Associative, Autonomous”. From there we’ll break into small groups, where you’ll get the opportunity to work on REFINING something that is important to you, examples: more amplitude on a jump, greater stability in a toeside carve, etc. We’ll capture video for pier to pier review at lunch, where we’ll not only discuss the mechanics of what we see, but our perceptions of each riders place within the stages of motor development and methods to best promote further progression.

We’ll finish off the day with peer to peer coaching, where you’ll have the opportunity to guide the progression of someone else in the group. Afterwards we’ll debrief our experience where you’ll be rewarded with a branded gift for your efforts.
