Sunday – Something NEW
Meet at Boreal Day Lodge 8:30am. We’ll start the day with a discussion about the various factors that influence someone’s ability to learn. We’ll use “Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs” to frame this initial conversation. From there we’ll break into small groups and head on snow, where your coach will teach you something NEW. Examples include: Dolphin Turns, White Pass Turns, etc. At lunch you will debrief your experience, discussing the methods your coach used to adapt the learning environment to meet your needs. After lunch we’ll introduce a new model “Learning Styles; Seer, Thinker, Feeler, Doer”. As a group we will discuss their traits and how these biases can effect learning. Then you will go back on snow where your coach will lead you though a peer coaching activity to gain insight on your personal biases, as well as methods on how to recognize and react to someone else’s biases.
Monday – Refinement
Meet at Boreal Day Lodge 8:30am. We will start the day with a discussion on the three stages of motor development “Cognitive, Associative, Autonomous”. From there we’ll break into small groups, where you will have the opportunity to work on REFINING something that is important to you. For example: increased edge angles for dynamic carved turns, greater stability on steeper terrain, etc. We will capture video for peer to peer review at lunch, where we’ll not only discuss the mechanics of what we see, but our perceptions of each riders place within the stages of motor development and methods to best promote further progression. We’ll finish off the day with peer to peer coaching, where you’ll have the opportunity to guide the progression of someone else in the group. Afterwards we will debrief our experiences where you’ll be rewarded with a branded gift for your efforts.
