In this workshop you’ll learn the intricacies of managing pressure and redirecting momentum through the shape of your turns, so you can ride more terrain at faster speeds with greater control.
Over the course of 2 days we’ll aim to cover three types of turns;
- Dynamic skidded turns, where you’ll lean how to control your speed early in the turn resulting in less chatter and a smoother line.
- Dynamic carved turns, where you’ll learn how to redirect your momentum up hill allowing you to keep that pencil line as the speed increases.
- Pivot Slips, where you’ll learn how to turn in a short space without travelling across the mountain, the foundation of navigating chutes and moguls.
If you’re looking to explore more of your favorite resorts with confidence this workshop is a must. This is also a great workshop to attend before going to one of our freeride sessions in Utah, Chile, or Japan. If you are training for your level 2 this course is perfect to get you on the path to taking your Ride Exam! Groups will be designed based on ability and experience.

Thursday
Meet at the Alpine Meadows Lodge at 8:30am. After a few warm up laps we’ll split into small groups. We’ll start by breaking down a style of dynamic skidded turn that best suites the conditions of the day and the goals of the group (ex: most flexed or most extended). You’ll learn the 3 phases of the turn, where best to manage pressure and redirect momentum for a smooth edge change, and how to control speed throughout the turn rather than all at once. We’ll then take our turn and apply it to a variety of terrain like gullies, off-piste, and steeper groomed. We’ll make a point to capture video for later analysis off snow back at the lodge.
Friday
Meet at 8:30am Palisades Tahoe “Coffee Bar”. This morning we’ll start the day focused on Carving. Taking advantage of the fast fresh groomed runs, you’ll learn how to hold an edge regardless of how fast you are moving through a concept called “Angulation”. You’ll then learn how to adapt your turn shape to so you can control how fast you travel down hill without skidding to slow down. Finally will cap off carving with a focus on the “transition” from one edge to the other, where your learn how to keep the board traveling up and across the hill while changing your edge, resulting in more control at the start of every turn. Once the groomers are fully ridden out we’ll change our focus to Pivot Slips, where you’ll learn how to steer your board with your hips legs and feet rather than your who body, allowing you to maintain stability from edge to edge at a very slow speed in a tight space.
