In this second installment of our “Foundations” series we explore the physics behind balanced skiing. In practice we will analyze the moments that comprise a variety of turns: big, small, carved, skidded, etc. In doing so we are able to expose the various relationships between body movement, mass, inertia, equipment and surface. Armed with a deeper understanding “how skiing works”, and more importantly, a process to analyze it, you will be better able to critique your own skiing and make thoughtful decisions as you progress.
If you’re looking to increase speed and flow for more continuity between turns this is a must -or- If you’re an instructor and your trying to bridge the technical knowledge gap between certifications this workshop will deliver. Groups will be designed based on ability and experience.
This workshop is designed for intermediate skiers to experienced instructors. This workshop has a minimum participation of 4 people to operate and if minimum participation is not met within 14 days of the start date you will receive a full refund. LIFT TICKETS INCLUDED IN REGISTRATION PRICE

Sunday
Meet Boreal Day Lodge 8:30am. We’ll spend the morning breaking down a style of turn agreed upon by the group. Examples include: dynamics short radius turns, carved long radius turns, skidded turns, etc. with a primary focus of clearly defining the “IDEAL” turn. We’ll capture video as we go for later analysis back in the lodge. In the afternoon we’ll take that same style of turn to different type of terrain, this may include: steep groomed, off-piste, etc. and we’ll discuss how we modify the turn to adapt to the differences in the new terrain element.
Monday
Meet Boreal Day Lodge 8:30am. For our second day we’re reversing the order. We’ll start with discussing an ideal line or outcome based on external factors, examples include: big turns on steeps, incorporating taking air, a smooth line through a gully, etc. From there we’ll use a physics based approach to identify the most effective turn style/movement pattern to achieve the goal. We’ll repeat this process several times making sure to capture video for another round of review at the lodge.
