Sitting about an hours drive North of greater Salt Lake City is Pow Mow “as the locals call it”, boasting an enormous 8000+ acres of terrain you’re pretty much guaranteed to find an untouched turn any time of the year. The bulk of Pow Mow’s lift serviced terrain consists of gladded aspen groves, open bowls, and huge rolling groomers. The core of Pow Mow’s terrain is flanked by two giant ridges, Lightening Ridge and Raintree Ridge, these ridges have everything a free rider could ask for, from open powder bowls, steep trees, to tight chutes. Lightening and Raintree are accessed primarily by Snow Cat, Snow Shoe, or Split Board, with each heroic ride ending at the bottom of a lift. And finally there’s Powder Country and Woody’s World, 1,200 acres of resort to road runs accessed by a chill shuttle ride back to the lifts.

With all that said we picked Pow Mow as our Utah destination because for one very special reason “SNOW QUALITY”. We visited Pow Mow during a mid winter dry spell, five weeks without a flake of snow.. as with most destination trips we planned our pilgrimage months in advance, and we were certain that we would be searching hard for even one meager pow turn. To our astonishment there were fresh turns everywhere; under the lift, in the bowls, easy lines in the trees, next to the lodge, everywhere! We quickly learned that Pow Mow controls the number of daily lift ticket sales to ensure that there’s never a lift line, and there’s always a great chance at freshies.

Pow Mow Trail Map

Our journey starts at the Salt Lake City Airport, where we’ll pick you up and take you to our private lodge in Eden Utah. (If flying’s not your thing, you can meet us at our lodge in Eden where you can park your car and leave the rest of the driving to us.)

Our plan on the mountain is to build your skills as we adventure our way across this unique resort. We’ll start by exploring the best stashes we can find near the lifts, there we’ll focus on the skills needed to smoothly ride a variety of terrain elements found off the groomed, so wherever we go you’ll be laying down seamless lines.. As we move out we’ll explore some basic back country knowledge to keep us safe and working as a group as we take our journey away from the lifts; this includes learning how to use an avalanche beacon, communicate hazards, and forecast risk. Armed with knowledge we’ll venture beyond the lifts taking advantage of the road shuttle, touring via snow shoes, and Pow Mow’s Lightening Ridge snowcat operation.

Off hill we’ll support your adventure with hearty breakfasts, comfortable lodging, fun après activities like; hot tub happy hours, video review sessions, and family style feasts at our lodge and at local restaurants.

Our Lodge

We’ll cap the entire session off with ceremonious gifts and celebration. By the end of the adventure we’ll be a pretty tight group, which means you’ll not only be leaving with tired legs but most definitely with new friends you can lean on to propel your snow story even further.

This is an advanced Snowboard session, participants must be able to safely make turns with confidence on groomed black terrain. This session has a minimum participation of 6 persons to operate, if minimum participation is not met within 30 days of travel you will receive a full refund, or you can elect to convert your reservation to a private or semi private session.

Sunday, Arrival Day

Arrive at SLC by 4pm, or to our lodge by 5:30pm. We’ll get moved in and have a leisurely dinner where we’ll discuss the week ahead; you’ll have a chance to review your ambitions for the week with your coaches, and get to know your fellow campers.

Monday, Off-Piste Fundamentals and Terrain Acclimation

We’ll leave for the mountain around 9am. After a couple of big group laps we’ll split into smaller groups, You’ll spend the day with your coach exploring the lift accessed regions of Powder Mountain, getting yourself, your gear, and your ambitions aligned for the week ahead. Come 4pm if our legs are hungry for more, we’ll stop for some après on the mountain and follow it up with few sunset laps under the lights. After riding we’ll head right to dinner in Eden, followed by a relaxing evening at our lodge.

Tuesday, Back Country Essentials and Raintree Ridge

We’ll start the day in our small groups warming up with a soft focus on the previous days discoveries, we’ll even shoot some video for a deeper look at your riding back at the lodge. Then we’ll get back together in our big group and get up close and personal with some backcountry gear. We’ll follow up our safety education by slapping on some snow shoes to make the short accent to Raintree ridge for some untouched tree laps. After riding we’ll head back to our lodge, where we’ll watch videos, eat a healthy dinner, and get some rest for the next days big adventure.

Wednesday, Lightening Ridge

Lightening ridge is home to Powder Mountains most extreme terrain, but don’t let that scare you. Fortunately this behemoth of a ridge also has options for everyone, from open cruisy bowls, tight chutes, to cliff drops. We’ll make our accent to meet the snow at it’s prime, we’ll do this either by diesel powered snowcats, or by snowshoes, if all is well, we’ll follow it up with a second lap! If anyone prefers to stay closer to the lifts we’ll accommodate that as well. After a great day on the mountain we’ll head back to our lodge to clean up before dinner in town.

Thursday, Get the shot and celebrate

We’ll have a pretty good idea of what we want to ride or revisit by this point. We’ll keep the itinerary loos this day so we can go in whatever direction our collective hearts want! With that said if you haven’t gotten a great photo of your personal best today is the day. We’ll follow up our day with a celebration on the mountain, and dinner gifts and speeches back at our lodge.

Friday, Departure Day

All good things must come to an end (at least a temporary one). Departing flights must be scheduled after 9am. Coaches will make sure you are at the Airport at least 60min minutes before your flight departs. or to a Hotel in SLC if you’re looking to extend your adventure.

Please note this is itinerary is subject to changed based on conditions and group ambitions.
