Discover What Makes Progress Possible

Progression rarely happens in a straight line. Sometimes a breakthrough comes from learning something entirely new. Other times, it comes from revisiting something familiar with a different perspective. Understanding how we learn, what holds us back, and what allows us to move forward can be just as valuable as the technical skills themselves.

Welcome to Breakthrough, the third and final installment of our Foundations workshop series.

This two-day workshop explores the relationship between learning, movement, and personal progression. Rather than focusing exclusively on what we do on our skis, we’ll examine how we develop skills, recognize opportunities for improvement, and create the conditions that allow meaningful progression to happen.

Through guided experimentation, collaborative learning, peer coaching, and movement analysis, we’ll explore two complementary approaches to development: learning something new and refining something familiar.

Drawing inspiration from established learning theories, motor-development models, and the relationship between psychological needs and performance, we’ll discover how our individual experiences influence the way we approach challenges.

Whether you’re a recreational skier looking to move beyond a plateau or an instructor seeking a deeper understanding of how people learn, Breakthrough offers an opportunity to see progression from a different perspective.

The goal isn’t simply to become better at something. It’s to better understand what makes becoming better possible.

This workshop has a minimum participation of 4 persons to operate, if minimum participation is not met within 14 days of the start date you will receive a full refund. LIFT TICKETS INCLUDED IN REGISTRATION PRICE

Sunday | Learning Something New

Rediscover What It Means to Be a Beginner

When was the last time you attempted something completely unfamiliar? On our first day, we’ll deliberately place ourselves in the position of a learner. Through unfamiliar movement challenges and guided experimentation, we’ll explore how we respond when our existing knowledge and experience are no longer enough.

We’ll investigate the relationship between confidence, motivation, individual learning preferences, and the environment we create for ourselves and others. Using peer coaching, reflection, and video analysis, we’ll explore:

  • How we approach unfamiliar movement patterns.
  • The relationship between psychological needs, confidence, and learning.
  • Recognizing personal learning preferences and tendencies.
  • How feedback, experimentation, and collaboration influence skill acquisition.
  • Creating environments that encourage exploration and meaningful progress.

By stepping outside our comfort zones, we’ll gain a better understanding of what it takes to develop new skills and how we can apply those discoveries to our everyday riding.

Monday | Refining Something Familiar

Discover New Possibilities Within Existing Skills

Learning something new is only one side of progression. Sometimes our greatest breakthroughs come from reconsidering something we think we already know. On Day 2, we’ll turn our attention toward familiar skiing movements and established habits.

Building upon the discoveries from Day 1, we’ll explore how movement analysis, intentional practice, and alternative learning approaches can help us move beyond plateaus. Through collaborative coaching, experimentation, and video review, we’ll investigate:

  • Recognizing established movement patterns and habits.
  • Understanding the difference between repetition and intentional practice.
  • Applying motor-development concepts to familiar skills.
  • Using feedback and peer coaching to identify new opportunities.
  • Developing a more personalized approach to continued progression.

We’ll conclude by connecting the experiences of both days, reflecting on what we’ve learned about ourselves as riders and learners, and identifying how to carry those discoveries into future experiences.
