Step into your Level 2 with clarity, confidence, and a plan.
This 9-day immersive Prep Camp is designed for AASI Level 1 certified instructors who are ready to meet—and exceed—the Level 2 standard. Hosted at Timberline Lodge, you’ll spend 7 days on snow breaking down the exam criteria and rebuilding your riding, teaching, and technical understanding into something you can trust under pressure.
Each day is intentionally aligned with how you’ll be evaluated. You’ll dive into technical understanding and movement analysis, learning to accurately assess cause and effect from the ground up. You’ll refine your own riding through focused rider development, building the consistency and adaptability required at Level 2. And you’ll spend dedicated time on teaching intermediate snowboarders, developing clear communication, lesson structure, and real-time adaptability. The final on-snow day is a flex day, giving you space to target personal goals or push beyond the standard.
What sets this camp apart is the depth of feedback. Every module includes individualized written evaluations tied directly to AASI Level 2 assessment criteria, so you’ll know exactly where you stand—and what to do next. Video analysis is a core part of the experience, with 3–4 structured evening review sessions combining coach feedback and peer-to-peer insight to accelerate your learning.
You’ll train in small groups with a 4:1 participant-to-coach ratio, ensuring high-level, personalized coaching throughout the week.
Your coaching team brings together some of the most experienced educators in the industry:
- Joshua Thompson-Bourrie — AASI-West Examiner & Education Staff, Founder of Progression Sessions
- Erick Espinoza — Former AASI-West Examiner, USSA 300 Coach, Jackson Hole Staff Trainer
- Stephanie Wilkerson — AASI National Team Alumni, Former AASI-West Ed Staff, Founder of Altitude Sports
- Chris Hargrave — AASI Northwest Ed Staff, U.S. Olympic Pipe & Slope Coach, Author of the AASI Freestyle Manual
Off the hill, the learning continues with evening study sessions designed to deepen your understanding of exam concepts while building the confidence to apply them. And just as important, we make space for connection—shared meals, local outings, and a community of like-minded instructors all pushing toward the same goal.
This is a fully supported experience: 8 nights lodging in historic Government Camp, all meals included (a mix of lodge dining and curated local restaurants), and airport transportation—so you can stay focused on progression, not logistics.
Arrive early on May 8th and enjoy a complimentary night of lodging plus a bonus warm-up day on snow to get dialed before the camp begins.
If you’re serious about achieving your Level 2—and becoming a more capable, confident instructor in the process—this is your pathway forward.

Day 1, Saturday — Arrival Day
Arrive at PDX by 4pm, or Government Camp by 5:30pm. We’ll get settled into our lodge and share a relaxed dinner while outlining the week ahead. We’ll introduce the AASI Level 2 standard, review how the assessment works, and set individual goals for the week so you know exactly what you’re working toward.
Day 2, Sunday — Technical Understanding & Movement Analysis (Foundations)
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll head to the mountain (approx. 8:30). We kick things off by diving into the mechanics of efficient snowboarding—how we create and manage pressure, control edge angles, and guide the board through a variety of turn shapes and conditions. We’ll capture baseline video of your riding and begin developing your movement analysis skills—learning how to observe performance and identify cause and effect.
After a full day on snow, we’ll return to the lodge for dinner, followed by an evening session introducing key movement analysis frameworks and how they align with Level 2 expectations.
Day 3, Monday — Technical Understanding & Movement Analysis (Application)
We continue building your MA skillset by applying it in real time. You’ll practice observing, prioritizing, and communicating feedback with clarity and accuracy—both on yourself and your peers. In the evening, we’ll host our first formal video review session, combining coach feedback and peer-to-peer insight to sharpen your eye and deepen your understanding of performance.
Day 4, Tuesday — Rider Development
Now we turn the focus inward. Using the insights from the first two days, we’ll work to refine your personal riding—targeting consistency, versatility, and control across varied terrain. We’ll explore how technical adjustments translate into performance gains, helping you ride with more intention and adaptability in the conditions you’ll encounter during the Level 2 assessment.
After another BIG day on snow, we’re gonna wind down with a social dinner, and some space to simply relax, hit the HOT TUB, go for a nature walk, or just chill with a movie.
Day 5, Wednesday — Rider Development (Application)
We continue developing your riding with more complex tasks and terrain, reinforcing efficient movement patterns and decision-making. This is a key day for building confidence—linking technical understanding to real performance.
In the evening, we’ll host another video review session to connect what you feel on snow with what’s actually happening.
Day 6, Thursday — Flex Day (Personal Focus)
This day is designed to meet you where you are. Whether you need to focus on movement analysis, refine your riding, or build confidence in your teaching, we’ll tailor the day to your individual goals. This is also an opportunity to explore concepts beyond the Level 2 standard for those ready to push further. A lighter structure allows space to reset, absorb, and prepare for the final phase of the camp.
In the evening we’ll do a deep dive into the assessment criteria of the L2 Teach Module
Day 7, Friday — Teaching Intermediate Snowboarders (Part 1)
We shift our focus to teaching. You’ll explore how to design and deliver effective, student-centered lessons for intermediate snowboarders—balancing technical accuracy with clear communication and engagement. On snow, you’ll begin leading teaching segments with your peers, practicing lesson flow, demonstrations, and feedback.
In the evening we’ll explore a variety of scenarios focusing on the connection between terrain, so you’ll learn how to adapt concepts you understand to a variety of goals.
Day 8, Saturday — Teaching Intermediate Snowboarders (Part 2)
We build on the previous day with more advanced teaching scenarios. Participants will lead structured sessions that mirror Level 2 expectations—adapting to changing needs, managing groups, and delivering concise, effective feedback. Each teaching segment is followed by individualized feedback tied directly to AASI Level 2 criteria, giving you a clear understanding of your strengths and where to focus moving forward.
We’ll wrap the week with a final dinner and celebration of the work you’ve put in.
